ChatGPT in Action: Real Business Use Cases (Includes Examples)
ChatGPT is a very advanced language generation model that can output some seriously human-like text. It’s the next step in conversational AI and natural language processing (NLP).
In a nutshell, it’s like having your own personal robot writer. It can be used for fun and trivial activities or tasks but when utilised in right way it can help and even transform businesses in previously unimaginable ways.
So lets dive into how Generative Pre-trained Transformer (we’ll stick with ChatGPT) can help you in the real world.
Personal Recommendations
ChatGPT, is pre-trained on a large dataset of text, which allows it to generate text without the need for additional training. This means it is possible to create personal recommendations without fine-tuning it on a specific dataset.
Travel Professor, a client of ours, has integrated ChatGPT into their customer service and acquisition strategy. Travel Professor collects personal travel preferences via Messenger and Instagram DMs, once these travel preferences are collected and stored a request is sent to the ChatGPT API which then responds with a message, in this case a list of travel destinations. It’s an attractive feature which has helped increase conversions and improve customer satisfaction.
Another client Cello Cheese, a leading US food brand. Added a new feature to their conversational experience that generates the persons dream cheeseboard, it asks them 5 quick questions and then outputs a very personal cheese board recommendation based on their answers. It creates a tailored cheeseboard on a number of factors including, preferred flavours, textures, vegetarian, accompaniments and the occasion. We’re seeing more brands use chatbots (Messenger, Instagram & WhatsApp) not just as customer service tools, but to deliver a unique personal brand experience that creates meaningful relationships on a one-to-one basis at scale.
These two examples outline how ChatGPT can be used to generate recommendations without custom datasets. However, fine-tuning the model with your own data can improve its performance. For example, if you want to use ChatGPT to generate product recommendations for a retail business, ideally you would want to fine-tune the model on a dataset of your inventory, so that personal recommendations that are specific to your business can be sent. You could also use customer data, this would allow the model to learn the patterns and relationships within the data and generate more accurate recommendations. For example, you can give the model a prompt like “Show me the top 5 recommended products for customer X based on their purchase history” or “Show me 5 beds that are ideal for a 7 year old boy who needs a desk and storage space”.
The ChatGPT API allows developers to input text and receive a response. The API means that the responses (personal recommendations) can be easily integrated with social messaging platforms such as Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp as well as other popular marketing channels such as SMS and email.
In the ChatGPT API request you can set the “temperature” this changes how random the output text is. If you lower the temperature, the text will be less random and more predictable.
Customer Service & Support
ChatGPT can be trained to understand and respond to frequently asked customer inquiries. This can help companies to improve their customer service by providing instant and accurate responses to customer questions, it can even be trained on a company’s knowledge base.
We have used ChatGPT and Google Dialogflow to help train the models/agents to understand frequently asked questions for a variety clients including businesses within hospitality, retail, automotive and higher education. The main benefits include reducing the workload on human reps, instant responses that can be personalised based on historical interactions and being able to handle a large volume of customer interactions at once.
Content Creation
ChatGPT can generate high-quality text in a variety of tones and styles but that doesn’t mean you should start creating all your company content using it. Websites that use a lot of AI generated content will likely be penalised by search engines.
It can still act as a great research tool and starting point for many of your content needs, some examples include:
– Generating product descriptions, social media content, quizzes or blog post titles.
– ChatGPT can also be used to translate text into languages which can help you expand into new territories.
– As we’ve previously mentioned it can create personalised content for different audience segments, based on their interests and demographics.
Coding & Development
ChatGPT can be used to generate code snippets or entire programs in specific programming languages such as JavaScript, Python and React. Whilst it’s a very powerful tool and will only get better, it’s currently unable to write complex applications and can be prone to errors.
It can provide step-by-step instructions for your coding and development tasks which is really useful for learning or helping create briefs.
It can also be used to create documentation for code or even re-write code making it easier to follow.
Lead Generation & Lead Scoring
ChatGPT can be used for lead generation by using it to generate automated chat, SMS or email responses to potential leads, helping to qualify and nurture them. It can also be used for lead scoring by analysing the language and sentiment used by a lead in their communications and assigning them a score based on their likelihood of becoming a customer.
For example, a car dealership can use ChatGPT to analyse the language used by leads in their communications and assign them a score based on their likelihood of becoming a customer. For example, if a lead uses language that indicates a high level of interest, it could trigger an automated email or send a notification to a member of staff asking them to call the lead directly to close the sale.
